My Blog: Sharing my opinions, feelings, views to all who are interested. My perspective aged like a fine wine. The grapes matured and ripened; the liquid released from the fruit is crisp, clean, clear. Savor from the oak barrel that was built by an experienced crafts person.

Yes, there are a few blue cities in a red state. I had the pleasure to visit Dallas and Austin. The purpose of the Dallas trip was to meet an archivist at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. I have been donating family artifacts to the museum.

In 2019, the museum underwent an expansion. I was connected to the museum by people I had met on a Holocaust trip to Poland. I had been excited to learn that the institution was open to receiving documents, letters, and photographs. I sent some items which were accepted. It is nearly impossible to donate anything to the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. On this trip I had more donations.

The two archivists we met were interesting, friendly, and generous with their time.

My sister and I toured the museum which is well done and comprehensive. There is a section on the history of significant human rights abuses in the 20th century. This exhibit is such that children can understand the displays.

Being in Dallas visiting the JFK assassination site was a priority. The main site is the 6th floor of the Book Depository Building. The window where Lee Harvey Oswald fired the fateful shots has been reconstructed. The 6th floor museum contains a history of the Kennedy presidency and assassination. Outside at Dealey Plaza one can view important spots in the chronology of the assassination. There are white X’s on the road where the bullets injured Connolly and murdered JFK.

On a lighter note, we sampled barbecue and some Southern cuisine. We discovered that many foods have a kick in Texas.

Austin was lovely, especially the warm weather. I thought it would be more quaint. What I saw of the university was impressive. The tourist area is hip and tasteful. One can take a nice walk along Lady Bird Lake.

I visited the LBJ Presidential Library which I found to be excellent. I realized how much Johnson’s policies and outlook had affected my view of the world, notwithstanding the Vietnam War. Lady Bird and LBJ were a great combination—he the consummate politician; she the gentler, but firm, nature lover.

The homeless problem in Austin and Dallas are awful. More on that later.
