Destruction

As the days tumble on, part of the world crumbles into blocks of concrete. Two narcisstic leaders destroy cities, filled with innocent people, for what? Jews, Christians, and Muslims cower in shelters. For regime change--impossible, unless accomplished by the people who live in the country. Kill all the terrorists--impossible, when one dies two more rise up and so on. Two elderly men in distant lands form an unholy bond and attempt to distract us from their crimes, by setting cities, industrial sites, and ships on fire, while hunkered down safely in their shelters. The greedy one earning millions of dollars each day. Inhumane, while people go hungry in the land of plenty.

one leader destroys a democracy 250 years old, aided by syncophants who have murderous minds. Men and women, blind by their ambition and greed, do not see or care about the suffering of the world. Cronies and followers, known and unknown, believe they are protected by two vast oceans. The world gets smaller. The enemy lies within the nation. No longer can a country hide. The innocent die everywhere. Hope falters and dwindles.

The other leader tragically forgets his people's past and perpetrates mistakes while his enemies grow stronger. The world condems; there is no more sympathy. He squanders the dream of a homeland. The abused and displaced who create an oasis in the desert will be vanquished because many ignore their neighbors. They forget they were the stranger once. Blinded by their success, they do not attend to those they displace. The forgotten will rise up, and they do, assisted by the altruistic of the world.

I believe in aiding the weak, the oppressed. The Israeli government tyrannizes. Do these Israelis forget their history? Unthinkable. Where is the humanity, their sense of history? Going going gone, at the snap of the fingers? This can't be!

A modern Sodom reappears in both lands.

Scores of people in both countries abhor the current state of the world. No matter that the monks, bishops, rabbis, writers, artists, musicians, laborers, engineers, and the rest of us strive for peace and an end to the violence. The stronger survive and flourish until the others join to stop the fighting, the deceit, and misery. Who will help us stop this madness?

These two old men forget that we are always a minute away from total annihilation? The other evildoers quietly watch and wait. What will they do?
